Next Generation Logistics
Success Story Zalando
Simulation-based optimization of the highly automated intralogistics concept
Zalando has developed an innovative logistics concept called ‘Next Generation’ to expand and modernize the processes in the logistics centers. The concept is designed to optimize throughput times and automate intralogistics to a high degree.
The vision is more cost-efficient processes and fast deliveries for customers throughout Europe. The concept of new, highly automated intralogistics was developed to implement this.
SDZ has simulated an important component of the new concept to confirm the investment in automation. This has enabled optimizations to be made. Based on our analyses, we were able to realistically map the daily operating situations and increase efficiency.
THE CUSTOMER
Founded in Berlin in 2008, Zalando is building the leading e-commerce ecosystem for the European fashion and lifestyle market with its two growth areas B2C and B2B.
In the B2C segment, the company offers around 50 million active customers in 25 stores an inspiring and quality-oriented shopping experience for fashion and lifestyle products from numerous brands from a single source.
In B2B, Zalando uses its logistics, software and service infrastructure to support brands and retailers in their e-commerce transactions across Europe – both on and off the Zalando platform. With the ecosystem, Zalando aims to bring about positive change in the fashion and lifestyle industry.
INDUSTRY
- E-Commerce
- European logistics network with 12 logistics centers in 7 countries
“By simulating the most important system parts, bottlenecks could be identified at an early stage, the solutions developed and immediately checked for their effectiveness. Thanks to this process, the expected system performance was ultimately confirmed.”
